At the October 14, 2009 Hanover Township Commissioners meeting Marley Chintalla, a senior at Hanover Area High School, presented a check in the amount of $1,090.00 to the Hanover Township Commissioners and Police Department for the purchase of a bullet proof vest. The following letter was presented to Marley by Commissioner Chairman Bagusky.
Dear Marley:
As Chairman of the Hanover Township Board of Commissioners and on behalf of the Commissioners, Hanover Township Police Chief Albert Walker and police officers, we would like to thank you for the $1,090.00 donation towards the purchase of a bullet proof vest for the Hanover Township Police Department.
We understand that you raised the funds during a car show on August 30, 2009 as your Senior Project at Hanover Area High School. We would like to thank you for the time, effort and hard work you did in raising the funds for our police officers.
A bullet proof vest is a valuable life saving piece of equipment for a police officer. More than one-third of police officers murdered last year were not wearing bullet proof vests. The risk of dying by gunfire is higher for officers not wearing a vest. Over the past decade, 43% of the 1,671 officers who died of any cause in the line of duty weren't wearing a vest.
Once again we would like to thank you for having a strong interest in the safety of our officers and to help them provide a safer community to live in.
Sincerely,
Albert J. Bagusky, Chairman
Hanover Township Board of Commissioners
