William L. Howatt realized his dream on March 6, 1967 when he began his career as a Patrolman in Hanover Township. In 1976 he was promoted to Lieutenant. In 1991 Bill was appointed Chief of Police of Hanover Township. Bill is a 1970 graduate of the Pennsylvania State Police Academy for Municipal Police. Bill has completed a number of specialized police training courses throughout his career. He is the past President of the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association, Past President of the Northeast Chief of Police Association, which included 22 counties, Past President of Luzerne County Chief of Police Association and has served on the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association Executive Board, a Board Member of the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission, member of IACP, Northeast Emerald Society, Wyoming Valley Lodge 36 FOP, he was instrumental in the construction of the Lodge, Past President of FOP Lodge 36 Home Association, Luzerne County Law Enforcement Officers Pistol Range, Past President of the Crime Clinic of Wyoming Valley and Coalville Lodge 474 F&AM. Bill faithfully endeavors to preserve and protect the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Hanover Township. The Chief has demonstrated exemplary knowledge, ability and integrity in caring out his many responsibilities and has earned deep respect and gratitude for his tireless devotion to duty. The Chief has brought much distinction, credit and praise to the Township of Hanover and by his conduct and example in the Township and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, he has brought honor and distinction to himself and to those he served through his public service. The Hanover Township Board of Commissioners urge all or citizens in our community to recognize the outstanding achievements of Chief Howatt who in distinguishing himself has brought honor and credit to the Township of Hanover and commend Chief Howatt for 42 years of valuable service and expresses it sincere thanks to him and wishes him the brightest future in his retirement years. |

Eligible older adults and residents with disabilities can now check the status of Property Tax/Rent Rebate applications online at www.papropertytaxrelief.com
“Our commitment to property tax relief is unwavering, and this new Web tool enhances customer service for the older adults and people with disabilities who rely on these annual checks,” Governor Edward G. Rendell said, introducing the new tool in late April. Six weeks after submitting a Property Tax/Rent Rebate application, the applicant may visit www.papropertytaxrelief.com and check the status of the rebate by entering his/her Social Security number, anticipated rebate amount and birth date. |
